Luminar Iris
Luminar’s Iris is the most advanced lidar solution for series-production autonomy. It solves the fundamental problem of reliable, long-range sensing for real-world systems. From scene monitoring to vehicle control, it operates over temperatures from -40C to +85C under harsh conditions including shock and vibration, for series-production programs with an initial SOP in 2022.
With camera-like resolution of more than 300 points per square degree and high data fidelity, Iris reliably sees where objects are and understands what they are -- even at long distances. Developed with safety and cybersecurity in mind, Iris can enable safe and unsupervised automation of vehicles and other equipment.

Range
Luminar’s Iris lidar sensor offers the detection range needed to unlock your applications even when uncooperative targets are at long ranges. The sensor is capable of detecting 5% reflective targets at 165 meters and 10% reflective targets at 200 meters with > 90% detection. The sensor also detects small objects like power lines at over 100 meters.
Resolution
Luminar is dedicated to enabling efficient detection and classification of small objects at long distances. We resolve highly precise 3D measurements, including small objects such as wires.
Reflectance
In addition to the 3D point cloud, Luminar’s Iris lidar sensor also measures the amount of energy reflected from the target and provides a camera-like image. The addition of high-resolution reflectance provides an additional dimension to the data that can be leveraged to improve detection and classification algorithms.
Weather Performance
The higher laser power enabled by using 1550 nm sources in concert with our ability to detect multiple returns per measurement enables penetration of adverse weather and obscurants. This, in turn, supports all weather, day, and night applications.
Configurable Field Coverage
Software configurable scan settings enable you to focus on regions of interest - including an automated horizon tracker. Iris's precise angular resolution enables vertical and horizontal interlaced scanning - an economical solution to aggressive resolution and frame rate requirements.
