Computer Vision Engineering Manager

AutonomouStuff is searching for a hands-on engineering manager who can set the vision, lead, and grow a team of highly technical experts focused on machine vision algorithms used for mobile autonomous applications on hardened embedded production hardware. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining a core set of reference algorithms using thermal and color machine vision cameras, Lidar, and radar sensors that run on hardened compute modules. The reference algorithms created by this team will be used both by our internal application development teams as well as customers to be deployed in production autonomous systems.

What you will do:

  • Oversee the day to day activities of the core machine vision team
  • Manage best practices for optimization and deployment of core machine vision algorithms onto hardened production-grade hardware
  • Work with application team leadership, engineering directors, and product managers to set team roadmap and direction.
  • Provide rough order of magnitude (ROM) and detailed time and cost estimates for new development opportunities.
  • Approve technical content in quote language and statement of work documents.
  • Provide engineering level customer support as needed to ensure a world-class customer experience.
  • Assist with various sales activities as needed.  
  • Maintain JIRA Projects and team workflows. Ensure project data and tasks are updated regularly.
  • Report project status throughout the organization.
  • Perform general team management duties (approve timesheets, perform annual reviews, set team goals, host team meetings, etc)
  • Travel to customer sites as needed when deploying software updates or the latest delivery. (minimal)
  • Various other tasks as assigned

What we want to see:

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • Experience writing software solving challenges with advanced perception algorithms for real-world applications involving high levels of software engineering expertise.
  • Experience managing a small team or acting as a technical lead for small teams.
  • Strong experience optimizing machine vision algorithms for embedded applications used in production applications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead, recruit, manage, and build an amazing team culture

How to stand out from the crowd:

  • Direct experience managing machine vision teams
  • Masters degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience managing computer vision teams
  • Proven track record of leading, recruiting, and building amazing team culture.
